Summer Survival 2004

On Wednesday, September 15, the three-member teams gathered at the shore of Plumlov Dam to commence the second phase of this military multi-contest. Prior to the starting moment, which came shortly after 9 o’clock, athletes had already crossed on foot a 30 km distance in rough terrain and spent the night under the open sky.

In spite of these difficulties, all the teams prepared for the first event with a high responsibility and determination. The competitors had to move to the other side of the lake, over which, at the height of approximately 25 m, organizers suspended a rope. Having reached the other shore, one of the athletes grabbed the rope and with its help had to get back to the first side of the lake. However, the rope slackened under their weight and soldiers finished in water somewhere in the middle of the lake, where they had to release themselves from the snap-hook. Their teammates picked them up on the boats and paddled as fast as possible to the shore so as not to exceed their time limit.

The drenched competitors, after making a further six-kilometer distance, had to crack another hard nutshell. The organizers hid a small box containing the azimuth and distance for a further movement at the bottom of the fishpond. However, the teams found it very quickly and moved on towards Vyškov
